Sophomore Night delivered one of the most thrilling finishes in recent memory as College of the Desert stunned the Victor Valley College Rams, 83–82, on a miraculous four-point play at the buzzer.
Trailing by three in the closing seconds, freshman guard Lee'Tron Turner raced up the floor and launched an off-balance three-pointer that splashed through the net as time expired, tying the game at 82–82. Fouled on the shot, Turner calmly stepped to the line and sank the free throw to complete the dramatic "and-one" and secure the victory.
The win snapped a three-game skid against the Rams and evened the recent six-game series at 3–3.
Turner, a freshman from Indio H.S., delivered his fourth 20-point performance of the season, finishing with 23 points. He connected on 7-of-23 from the field and knocked down both of COD's three-pointers — none bigger than the game-tying triple at the horn. He also went 7-of-11 from the free-throw line.
Sophomore guard De'miem King of Palm Springs H.S. capped his Sophomore Night with his 11th double-double of the season. King led all scorers with 24 points on an efficient 11-of-19 shooting performance and pulled down 13 rebounds, including seven on the defensive end.
Freshman guard Jayse Creavalle (Palm Springs H.S.) flirted with a triple-double, totaling 14 points, seven assists, and eight steals. Despite shooting 3-of-14 from the field, Creavalle was clutch at the line, converting 8-of-10 free throws.
Freshman guard Payton Joseph of Beaumont H.S. recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, nine of them defensive.
The Roadrunners will close out the 2026 season on Friday, Feb. 20, with a 7 p.m. road contest at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga.
