Historic Season for the Roadrunners
Under ninth-year head coach Detlev Rothe, the Roadrunners have put together one of the finest seasons in program history. COD claimed its best playoff position ever and captured the program's ninth Inland Empire Athletic Conference (IEAC) Championship, its first since 2022.
Desert enters the postseason at 21–6 overall, a new program record, and 9–1 in IEAC play.
The Roadrunners recorded 15 sweeps during the regular season, including a remarkable 13-match winning streak from September 12 through November 7. COD also secured several program-first victories this season, including wins over El Camino, the College of the Canyons, and Moorpark, as well as its first win over Citrus since 1991.
With momentum and history on their side, the Roadrunners now aim to secure the first postseason victory in program history.
Scouting the Opponent: #8 Miramar Jets
Miramar has engineered one of the biggest turnarounds in the region. After finishing sixth in the PCAC last season, the Jets surged to a 22–7 overall record and 13–3 in conference, good for second place. The program has been revitalized under first-year head coach Brooke Callahan, making its first postseason appearance in school history.
The Jets opened the season 6–4 but have been strong down the stretch, going 8–2 over their final 10 matches.
COD holds a 3–1 all-time record against Miramar since the Jets added women's volleyball in 2018. Tuesday's match will mark the first-ever postseason meeting between the two programs.
What's Next
The winner of Tuesday's second-round matchup will advance to the Regional Championship on Saturday, November 29, traveling across San Diego to face the #1-seeded San Diego Mesa Olympians.
Two wins separate the Roadrunners from a spot in the 3C2A Women's Volleyball State Championship, held December 5–7 at Folsom Lake College.
