The College of the Desert women's tennis team returned to form Thursday afternoon, rolling to a 7-0 home victory over Imperial Valley in a heat-shortened contest.
The Roadrunners (7-7, 5-4 PCAC) extended their dominance over the Desert Warriors (1-11, 1-8), securing their fifth consecutive win in the series and completing their first season sweep of Imperial Valley in seven years.
Due to extreme heat conditions and a limited Desert Warriors roster, doubles play was adjusted. With Imperial Valley traveling with just five players, the No. 3 doubles team of freshman Sofia Torres (Indio HS) and sophomore Oriana Ramirez (Indio HS) earned a walkover victory to help set the tone early.
All singles matches were shortened and decided after one set. COD controlled play throughout, with freshmen Sophie Cordova (Palm Desert HS) and Lindsey Lopez (Downers Grove North HS, Ill.), along with Torres and sophomore Mia Castillo (Indio HS), each earning decisive wins.
Freshman Sofia Campbell (Cabrillo Point Academy, El Cajon) faced the most competitive matchup of the day, battling to a 4-2 victory.
The Roadrunners will continue Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, March 25, when they host San Diego City at 2 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for February 19 but was postponed due to rain in Palm Desert.
