The College of the Desert women's soccer team (2–3–1) picked up its first draw of the season, playing the West Los Angeles Wildcats (2–1–3) to a 2–2 tie on the road in Culver City.
The matchup marked the Roadrunners' first meeting with West LA since 2015 and their first trip to Culver City since 2014. The result was historic for another reason—it was the first draw in the all-time series, with COD having won each of the four previous contests.
Desert struck quickly in the first half. Freshman defender Jazmin Camarena Lopez (Cathedral City H.S.) opened the scoring on an assist from freshman midfielder Aida Sanchez-Gonzalez (Thermal Coachella Valley), giving COD a 1–0 lead. Later in the half, freshman forward Riley Rodriguez (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) added an unassisted goal to extend the advantage to 2–0.
The Wildcats, however, clawed their way back into the match, and COD ultimately settled for the road draw. In goal, sophomore Ana Rojas (Indio Shadow Hills) turned in a strong performance, playing all 90 minutes and making seven saves to preserve the tie.
The Roadrunners return home on Friday, September 19 at 7 p.m. at Hovley Soccer Park in Palm Desert, where they'll host the Orange Coast Pirates (4–2). The matchup will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs in women's soccer.
