The College of the Desert women's soccer team (2–2) earned its first home win of the season in style, blanking the Imperial Valley Desert Warriors (0–1–1) by a score of 4–0. The victory also marked the Roadrunners' second clean sheet of the year.
Freshman forward Riley Rodriguez (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) put COD on the board in the 17th minute with her first collegiate goal, finishing a setup from sophomore forward Citlalli Ponce (Indio Shadow Hills). The early strike energized the home crowd and gave the Roadrunners a 1–0 lead heading into halftime.
COD doubled its advantage in the 54th minute when freshman forward Willow Jones (Yucca Valley H.S.) netted her first goal of the season, assisted by freshman forward Raelyn Seacrist (Indio Shadow Hills). Just nine minutes later, Ponce added her own name to the scoresheet with a goal in the 63rd minute off a pass from Rodriguez.
Ponce wasn't done, striking again in the 85th minute on an assist from freshman midfielder Aida Sanchez-Gonzalez (Thermal Coachella Valley) to seal the 4–0 win.
On the defensive end, sophomore goalkeeper Ana Rojas (Indio Shadow Hills) had a quiet night, facing just two shots on goal but still recording her second shutout of the season.
The Roadrunners now hit the road for their next two matches before returning home on Thursday, September 19 at 7 p.m. at Hovley Soccer Park in Palm Desert, where they'll face the Orange Coast Pirates of Costa Mesa for the first time in program history.
