Second year head coach Garrett Estrin guided his team to a 7-10-4 overall record and a 2-6-2 conference record. As a reward for their fifth place finish, the team was bestowed with three All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference honors.
Those named to this year's All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference list was freshman defender Tiana Kubitz (Cathedral City H.S.) and sophomore defender Cynthia Hernandez (Cathedral City H.S.), both started 17 or more games and helped anchor a defense that supplied four team shutouts.
Kubitz had a multi-goal game performance against Compton on September 16th, where she scored two goals in a 9-0 demolition at home. Hernandez had one of the most powerful shots in the Conference, taking 44 shots on the year, as she connected on four goals and assisted on five goals.
Also added to the All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference was sophomore starting goal keeper Britney Vargas (La Quinta H.S.) who finished 2nd in the entire State of California in saves with 181 and 18th in the state in minutes with 1711:03.
It was another exciting run for Desert Women's Soccer head coach Garrett Estrin and his program, there are many things to look forward to in the upcoming season. Throughout the entire month of October, the team put together an impressive 5-1-2 record, climbing back into the hunt for a playoff spot and pulling off a most improbable 1-1 tie at home against the #5 team in the nation. As we move into the 2017 season, it should be a thrilling campaign.
