COD (5-7-1, 3-4) put together another solid performance and notching a huge Conference road victory by pushing past the Chula Vista Southwestern Jaguars (3-8-1, 1-4), 3-1.
Both teams would go into the break tied at 0-0 with the Roadrunners collecting a 7 - 3 edge over the Jaguars in shots.
Sophomore goal keeper Britney Vargas (La Quinta H.S.) and the defense of sophomore defender Alexis Wright (Palm Desert H.S.), freshman defender Tiana Kubitz (Cathedral City H.S.), freshman defender Daniela De Mara (Thermal Coachella Valley) and sophomore defender Cynthia Hernandez (Cathedral City H.S.) held together as a tight defensive unit. Vargas would only have to make 2 saves after 45 minutes.
The 2nd half opened up with a quick shot of confidence for the Lady Roadrunners as COD would take the lead just 36 seconds into the half on a freshman midfielder Vanessa Caudillo (Indio Shadow Hills) effort where she took the ball down the right flank on a 25 yard run until she would cross it and take the deflection from the Southwestern Keeper and put away the rebound. In the 58th minute the Jaguars were awarded a penalty kick and they would ricochet it off the cross bar and then missed the follow up.
As COD avoided that near miss it was shortly later that Southwestern would equalize with a very good shot from distance on Vargas in the 62nd minute. COD would then answer back only 3 minutes later when sophomore midfielder Sydney Hannibal (La Quinta H.S.) would take a run down the right flank crossing it to sophomore forward Madison Decker (San Bernardino Aquinas) on the far post for the lead.
The game would go back and forth at a feverish pace the next 20 minutes as COD would hold on to the lead until literally the 90th minute when freshman forward Maranda Palmer (Twentynine Palms H.S.) would score her first collegiate goal to seal the deal, after the celebration for Palmer
settled and the kickoff was taken the center Ref would blow his final whistle.
With COD enjoying the first road win on the season and now making it a two game win streak for the first time this season. The Roadrunners now stand at 5-7-1 overall 3-4 in PCAC, as they return to action Tuesday Oct. 18th vs Cuyamaca with a 3:00 pm kick-off.
