College of the Desert (6-8; 2-3) delivered one of its most complete performances of the season, overpowering Barstow (0-18; 0-5) in a doubleheader sweep, 23-2 and 10-4. The twin victories mark the Roadrunners' first double mercy-rule sweep of the Vikings in four seasons.
Game two was halted in the fourth inning following an injury to Barstow's right fielder on a routine fly ball. With only eight available players, the Vikings were unable to continue, resulting in a suspended contest.
The opener was highlighted by a historic performance from freshman first baseman Nevaeh Walls (Indio Shadow Hills), who drove in seven runs — the highest single-game RBI total for the program in recent memory. Her effort surpassed the previous mark of six RBIs set by Lauren Robinson on March 30, 2019, also against Barstow.
Walls finished game one 3-for-5 with three runs scored and seven RBIs from the seventh spot in the lineup, setting season highs across the board.
The Roadrunners' offense was relentless throughout the lineup:
* Freshman shortstop Samantha Beltran (Indio Shadow Hills) recorded her third multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-2 with four runs scored and three walks out of the leadoff spot.
* Freshman left fielder Isabel Inzunza (Thermal Coachella Valley) notched her third three-hit game of the year, finishing 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a season-high five RBIs.
* Sophomore pitcher Alyssa Martinez Sanchez (La Quinta HS) collected her ninth multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored, two RBIs, and two walks. She also earned her fourth win of the season, tossing five innings in the circle.
* Sophomore third baseman Tatiana Salinas (Rancho Mirage HS) set career highs with three hits and four RBIs, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
* Freshman catcher Jenna Bell (La Quinta HS) turned in a standout performance, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI.
* Sophomore second baseman Zayeli Rodriguez (San Jacinto Valley Academy) reached base three times via walks and scored twice.
In game two, the offensive momentum continued:
* Beltran went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
* Sophomore shortstop Danika Cisneros (Bermuda Dunes, California Connections Academy) added a hit and two RBIs.
* Inzunza finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
* Bell went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.
* Salinas contributed three RBIs while also earning her second win of the season in the circle, pitching three innings.
The Roadrunners will continue their road trip by resuming Inland Empire Athletic Conference play with visits to Victor Valley and Mt. San Jacinto, followed by a non-conference doubleheader at LA Harbor. COD then returns home on Wednesday, April 1 at 2 p.m. to host the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga.
