COD Men’s Tennis rolls by the Griffins, 6-3

Both Dimitrije Vukovic and Joao Luiz Zillo Prado remained undefeated in singles play in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play as the Roadrunners (2-2; 2-1) rolled up the Grossmont Griffins, 6-3.

Freshman Dimitrije Vukovic (Vancouver (BC) Morscrop Secondary) and freshman Jakob Dvorken (Ridgewood, NJ) continued to dominate doubles as they rolled in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, staying atop the early Conference standings with a 3-0 record. The Desert #3 Doubles team of freshman Joao Luiz Zillo Prado (São Paulo, Brazil) and freshman Eleazar Vazquez-Celes (Indio H.S.) took their match straight sets as well, 6-1, 6-3.

In singles play, Vukovic and Prado continued their dominance in Conference play, although it was far from easy. Vukovic won his match when his Griffins opponent committed a decorum violation, forcing the Griffins player to retire and Prado won in straight sets, but did so in a hard fought 7-5, 6-4 win.

Dvorken was stunned in singles play as he had to fend off a 2-6 first set loss, tying the match with a second set 7-5 win and then played a marathon third and defining set, falling in extras, 10-6.

Freshman Clayton Carlson (La Quinta H.S.) won his match in straight sets and Vazquez-Celes won in extras.

The next home match for the Roadrunners is Thursday, March 2nd against the San Diego Mesa Olympians at 2 p.m.
