COD Men’s Golf Finishes 2nd at State Championship; Armstrong & McDonald Earn All-State Honors
The College of the Desert men’s golf team closed out the 2026 season with a second-place finish at the 3C2A State Championship during a Mother’s Day weekend heatwave in La Quinta.
The College of the Desert men's golf team closed out the 2026 season with a second-place finish at the 3C2A State Championship during a Mother's Day weekend heatwave in La Quinta.
Competing in the final event of the season, the Roadrunners sent six golfers to the State Finals at SilverRock Resort. The two-day, 36-hole tournament featured top programs from across California. COD led the field after the opening round before finishing second overall with a team score of 584, six strokes ahead of Reedley College.
The Roadrunners' runner-up finish marks the program's best State Championship finish since 2012.
Top Performers Lead the Roadrunners
Sophomore Sinjin Armstrong (La Quinta H.S.) led the Roadrunners with a consistent two-day performance, carding back-to-back rounds of 2-under-par 70 to finish at 140 overall. Armstrong placed second individually and earned All-State honors.
Sophomore Braxton McDonald (Coldstream {BC} Kalamalka Secondary) opened the tournament with a 1-over-par 73 before bouncing back with an even-par 72 in the final round to finish at 145. McDonald placed fifth individually and also earned All-State honors.
Sophomore Linus Rindestad Utter (Handen {SWE} Fredrika Bremer Gymnasiet) opened with an even-par 72 before finishing with a 5-over 77 in round two to post a two-day total of 149, tying for 12th place.
Sophomore Mason Montgomery (Palm Desert H.S.) recorded a 1-over 73 in the opening round and followed with a 5-over 77 to finish at 150 overall, tying for 16th place.
Sophomore Logan Marra (Palm Desert H.S.) shot a 2-over 74 in round one before posting a 7-over 79 in the final round to finish at 153, tying for 27th place.
Freshman Braxten Ziegenbusch (Henry Harriman {UT} H.S.) rounded out the Roadrunners lineup with rounds of 79 and 77, finishing tied for 36th at 156 overall.
