COD Men’s Golf Secures OEC Title; Bown Named Coach of the Year, Five Earn All-Conference Honors
The College of the Desert men’s golf team capped an outstanding 2026 regular season with a strong performance at the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Finals, capturing the conference championship, earning Coach of the Year honors for head coach Tanner Bown, and securing a berth in the 3C2A Southern California Regional.
The College of the Desert men's golf team capped an outstanding 2026 regular season with a strong performance at the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Finals, capturing the conference championship, earning Coach of the Year honors for head coach Tanner Bown, and securing a berth in the 3C2A Southern California Regional.
The Coach of the Year honor marks the first for the Roadrunners since Andrew Perez received the award in 2017.
Competing in their 14th event of the season, the Roadrunners sent six golfers to the OEC Finals at Apple Valley Golf Club. The single-day, 36-hole tournament featured top competition from across the conference. COD finished second in the event with a team score of 603, eight strokes ahead of Riverside City. When all conference results were combined, the Roadrunners claimed the overall OEC title.
Top Performers Lead the Charge
Sophomore Mason Montgomery (Palm Desert HS) led the way for COD. After opening with a 6-over 77 to sit tied for 15th, Montgomery surged in round two with a 1-under 70 to claim the individual round title and finish with a 147. His performance earned him a second-place finish in the overall conference standings and All-Conference honors.
Sophomore Braxton McDonald (Coldstream, B.C. / Kalamalka Secondary) also delivered a strong showing. After a first-round 77, he improved by five strokes in round two with a 1-over 72, finishing tied for third with a 149. He placed third overall in conference standings and earned All-Conference recognition.
Sophomore Sinjin Armstrong (La Quinta HS) made one of the biggest jumps of the day, following an opening-round 81 with a 2-over 73 to finish tied for fifth with a 154. He placed sixth overall in conference and was named All-Conference.
Sophomore Logan Marra (Palm Desert HS) opened with a 76 to sit tied for seventh after round one before finishing with an 81 for a 157 total. His season-long performance earned him ninth place in conference standings and All-Conference honors.
Sophomore Linus Rindestad Utter (Handen, Sweden / Fredrika Bremer Gymnasiet) posted rounds of 80 and 78 to finish with a 158, placing fifth overall in conference standings and earning All-Conference recognition.
Sophomore Phar Vincent (Xavier College Preparatory – Palm Desert) recorded rounds of 80 and 79 to finish with a 159.

What's Next
The Roadrunners now turn their attention to the 3C2A Southern California Regional Finals, scheduled for Monday, May 4 at Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura.
