College of the Desert Men’s Basketball has removed the interim tag on head coach Robert Romero, hiring the Roadrunners coach to helm the program.
COD (5-18; 3-9) had three of their five starters in double figures and got the 6th double-double of the season from Abraham Bell, as the Roadrunners upset the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga (10-15; 6-8), 69-68.
COD (4-15; 2-6) had all five starters in double figures as they took a lead with five minutes left in the first half and never looked back, sinking the Barstow Vikings (4-12; 0-5), 97-82.
COD (3-11; 1-2) played its first game in almost a month as they held a lead until the final five minutes, falling late to the Copper Mountain Fighting Cacti of Joshua Tree (5-8; 2-0), 79-75.
COD (3-8; 1-0) turned a close game into a laugher late, as the Roadrunners opened up Conference play with a win over the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville (1-11; 0-1), 94-80.
COD (2-8) collected their first wins of the season on a road trip, knocking off the host Santa Barbara City Vaqueros, then defeating the LA Valley Monarchs, before falling to the #2 team in the state, the Ventura Pirates in the Championship game.
COD (0-7), still in search of their first win, will have to wait a little longer as one of their best efforts so far this season fell a little short, as the Roadrunners lost a close one to the Mt. San Antonio Mounties (7-3), 76-74.
COD (0-6) continues to play hard-nosed Basketball, holding a one-point lead at the break, but a 14-2 run in the second half buried any chance for the upset bid of the year, as the Roadrunners fell to the #1 team in the state, the Fullerton Hornets (8-0), 84-72.
COD (0-2) opened up the 2021-22 season with some good offensive production, but fell short in the win column, as the Roadrunners dropped a pair over the weekend.
