2025 Season in Review - COD Football
Under veteran head coach Jack Steptoe, in his 11th season leading the Roadrunners, COD finished the regular season with a record 4-6 overall and 3-2 in conference. The Roadrunners placed 3rd in the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) American Division - Metro League.

During the 2025 season, the Roadrunners delivered a series of historic victories, breaking long-standing records and settling decades-old scores. COD recorded the largest margin of victory in program history at LA Pierce, winning by 29 points, and defeated LA Southwest at home for the first time since 1985. The Roadrunners also posted their most lopsided win since 2018 with a 64–6 victory at Compton and secured their third consecutive win over LA Valley.
Freshman defensive end Tyrese McKneely (Palm Desert H.S.) was a unanimous selection for first team All-Metro League. He finished tied for fourth in sacks (5) and third in tackles for loss (10), all while grabbing 41 total tackles. His best game of the season was a 9-tackle night at home, against the West LA Oilers, on September 13.
First-team All-Metro League sophomore Mike Hoechsmann (Ulm [GER] Robert-Bosch) proved to be one of the conference's most versatile and impactful players in 2025, earning unanimous first-team honors at utility player and additional first-team recognition as a punter. As a running back, Hoechsmann finished in the top 10 in the conference in all major statistical categories, ranking eighth in rushing yards (401), fifth in carries (75), and eighth in yards per game (41.2). He was equally dominant in the kicking game, leading the conference in punts (43), punting yards (1,600), and yards per punt (37.2). His production was highlighted by several standout performances, including a season-high 19 carries for 88 yards at LA Valley and a season-best 279 punting yards at Antelope Valley on November 1.
Freshman lineman Jayden Cottonwood (Murray [UT] H.S.) was named second team All-Metro League.
Freshman inside linebacker Donte Winfrey (Rancho Mirage H.S.) made an immediate impact in the Metro League, earning second-team All-Metro League honors while leading the conference in assists (41), total tackles (73), and tackles per game (7.3). Winfrey also ranked fourth in the conference in solo tackles with 32 and recorded three games with 10 or more total tackles. His standout performance came on September 20 at Santa Monica, where he posted a season-high 15 total tackles, including six solo stops.
Freshmen Ayden Ogilvie (Twentynine Palms HS) and Noah Vaughn-Israel (Palos Heights [IL] Alan B. Shepard) each earned All-Metro League Honorable Mention honors after making significant impacts on defense and offense, respectively. Ogilvie, an outside linebacker, consistently pressured opposing quarterbacks, finishing in the conference top five in both sacks (5.0 - 4th) and sack yardage (36 - 4th). On offense, quarterback Vaughn-Israel ranked among the league's best passers, finishing in the top five in every major passing category, including yards (1,214 - 3rd), touchdowns (14 - 3rd), pass efficiency (135.8 - 3rd), completion percentage (57.4% - 3rd), and completions (83 - 2nd).
