COD Baseball Captures 8th IEAC Title, Sweeps Season Series with MSJC
The College of the Desert baseball team (28-5; 18-2 IEAC) secured its eighth Inland Empire Athletic Conference championship, and first since 2022, by completing a four-game season sweep of Mt. San Jacinto (18-17; 12-9 IEAC) with a 9-3 victory.

The sweep marks the first time since 2022 that the Roadrunners have taken all four games in a season series against the Eagles.
Offensively, COD was paced by sophomore left fielder Derrick Thompson (Randallstown, MD HS) delivered a standout performance, recording the first three-hit game of his career. Thompson went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs, marking his fifth multi-hit and third multi-RBI game of the season.
Sophomore center fielder Brandon Leon (La Quinta HS), who recorded his 22nd multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs. It marked his seventh game this season with three or more RBIs, all while setting the tone from the leadoff spot.
Sophomore second baseman Malakai Lopez (Rancho Mirage HS) added his 15th multi-hit performance, finishing 2-for-5 with a run scored from the No. 2 spot in the lineup.
At the heart of the order, sophomore third baseman Jayvin Baxa (La Quinta HS) contributed his 11th multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored—his 11th multi-run game of the year.
On the mound, sophomore right-hander Caleb Ortiz (Shadow Hills HS, Indio) earned his sixth win of the year. Ortiz tossed seven strong innings, allowing just one walk while striking out three. The bullpen remained sharp, as Brandon Deth (Moanalua HS, Honolulu, HI) closed out the game with two scoreless innings.
The Roadrunners will finish the regular season with three of their final four regular season games on the road, returning to the "Friendly Confines" on Tuesday, April 21 at 2:30 p.m. for Sophomore Day against Barstow.
