COD Beach Volleyball will travel to #4 Santa Barbara City on Tuesday in SoCal Regionals
The College of the Desert Beach Volleyball program has secured its first-ever Southern California Regional playoff berth, earning the No. 12 and final seed.
The College of the Desert Beach Volleyball program has secured its first-ever Southern California Regional playoff berth, earning the No. 12 and final seed. The Roadrunners will travel to the Central Coast on Tuesday, April 28 for opening-round competition after a third-place finish in conference play.

State Playoffs Ticket Prices are as follows: General Admission is $12. Faculty, Staff, Children Under 12, Adults 60+ & Students w/ Valid A.S. card are $8. There are no guest passes allowed.
The regional will feature a three-team bracket at East Beach in Santa Barbara, with the winner at each site advancing to the state championship. Play begins at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28. COD will open against No. 5 seed Grossmont. The winner will advance to the knock-out round, while the loser will immediately face host No. 4 seed Santa Barbara City. Tuesday's forecast in Santa Barbara calls for partly cloudy skies with a high of 69 degrees.
Under ninth-year head coach Det Rothe, the Roadrunners capped the 2026 season with a historic milestone, finishing 14-11 overall and 6-4 in conference play. The team's 14 wins mark a new program record, surpassing the previous high of 11 set in 2019.
Rothe also reached a personal milestone this season, earning his 50th career victory on March 13 with a 4-1 win over El Camino, the program's first-ever victory against the Warriors.
COD opens postseason play against a Grossmont squad that finished 15-6 overall and 9-3 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) play, tying for second place. The Griffins enter the postseason having won eight of their last 10 matches. Grossmont is led by head coach Jamie Ivers, now in her 16th season.
The Roadrunners could also face host Santa Barbara City, which posted a 17-5 overall record and an 11-1 mark in Western State Conference (WSC) play to claim the conference title. The Vaqueros have won nine of their last 10 matches and are led by fifth-year head coach Ariana Garner.
Historically, COD is 0-9 against Grossmont since 2017, with the closest result a 3-2 loss in 2019. The two teams last met on Feb. 11, 2026, with Grossmont earning a 4-1 victory. Tuesday's matchup will mark the first meeting between COD and Santa Barbara City.
The winner of the regional will advance to the 3C2A Beach Volleyball State Championship, scheduled for May 7–9 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
