COD Beach Volleyball celebrates their home opener with split vs. Pirates, sweep of Hornets

COD (1-1) grabbed thier first sweep of 2024, as the team would sweep the Fullerton Hornets (0-4) and fall to the Ventura Pirates (2-0) in the final contest of the day.

The Desert 2's team of freshman Sarah Nieto (La Quinta H.S.) and freshman Stacie Alexander (Yucca Valley H.S.) took Ventura to an extra set and the 4's team of freshman Ashley Estrada (Queen Creek (AZ) American Leadership Academy) and freshman Alexia Siani-Rader (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) would fight hard against Ventura, but the Pirates would end up taking both of those matches on their way to sweeping the Roadrunners, 5-0.

In the match against Fullerton, the 4's team of Estrada and Siani-Rader absolutely dominated, blowing out the Hornets, 21-6 and 21-7. The Desert 1's team of sophomore Melanie Hernandez (Thermal Coachella Valley) and freshman Bella Branconier (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) had a fight on their hands, eventually prevailing in the second set, 26-24. The Desert 3's team of sophomore Liana Whitley (Palm Desert H.S.) and sophomore Ashley Amidei (Indio Shadow Hills) and the 2's team of Nieto and Alexander each won their sets relatively easily. The Desert 5's team of freshman Sophia Gilbert (Palm Desert H.S.) and freshman Savannah Bush (Saint-Lambert (QC) Saint-Lambert International) secured the sweep for the Roadrunners by taking a forfeit victory.

The next home matches for College of the Desert Beach Volleyball will be Friday, February 9th beginning at 10 a.m., at the Civic Center Park, where they will host the Glendale Vaqueros and the San Diego Miramar Jets. Hope to see you there.
