COD Beach Volleyball falls to Spartans & Griffins in PCAC opener

COD (3-5) held their first home Beach Volleyball Conference match in program history on the sand courts at Civic Center Park in Palm Desert, falling to the MiraCosta Spartans (5-2) and the Grossmont Griffins (10-3).

Desert opened up Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) play against the defending CCCAA State Champions, the Spartans of Oceanside and the team of freshman Ashtyn Lyneis (Palm Springs H.S.) and freshman Nicole Svoboda (La Quinta H.S.) won their first set 21-16, but fell in set two, 21-15 and in the third and deciding set, fell 15-3. The team of freshman Baylie Dashner (La Quinta H.S.) and freshman Brooke Topliff (Rancho Mirage H.S.) and the team of sophomore Marisol Ruiz (Thermal Desert Mirage) and sophomore Alysha Garcia (Thermal Desert Mirage) fell in straight sets. The team of freshman Naomi Garcia-Marquez (Rancho Mirage H.S.) and freshman Emily Sundback (Rancho Mirage H.S.) and the team of sophomore Ashley Schwartz (Yucca Valley H.S.) and sophomore Aaliyah Charley (Thermal Coachella Valley) also fell in straight sets.

The Roadrunners then took on a 2017 CCCAA State Final Four participant, the Griffins of El Cajon and all five Roadrunners teams fell in straight sets.

Next match for College of the Desert Beach Volleyball will be Friday, March 23rd beginning at 9 a.m., where they will travel to the Belmont Shore and the Granada Beach Courts in Long Beach. The Roadrunners will be taking on the Rio Hondo Roadrunners of Whittier and the Mt. San Antonio Mounties of Walnut. Hope to see you there.
