Huitzi Montalvo
Sr. Equipment Manager

Huitzi Montalvo has been a dedicated member of the College of the Desert Kinesiology & Athletics Department since 2016, bringing with her over two decades of experience in collegiate athletics operations. Her journey in athletics began in 2003 at Orange Coast College, where she worked under the guidance of Dottie Aper in the Physical Education and Athletics Division. That early experience ignited her passion for supporting student-athletes and coaches through behind-the-scenes excellence.

As COD’s Senior Equipment Manager, Huitzi oversees the day-to-day operations that keep Roadrunner Athletics running smoothly. Her responsibilities include supervising and training student assistants and staff, managing equipment and uniform inventories, and ensuring the proper issuing, storage, and maintenance of gear across all sports. She also coordinates the setup and breakdown of athletic competitions—ranging from basketball and soccer to volleyball, football, baseball, and beyond—ensuring that both conference and regional events meet the highest standards.

Known for her attention to detail, reliability, and collaborative spirit, Huitzi is often the go-to resource for coaches, faculty, and staff who rely on her ability to get things done with efficiency and care. She balances the ability to work independently with strong teamwork skills, consistently producing a high volume of work while maintaining exceptional quality.

Beyond logistics, Huitzi is valued for her human touch. Her strong interpersonal skills allow her to connect meaningfully with administration, faculty, alumni, coaches, student-athletes, and campus visitors alike. Her caring nature and service-oriented approach help create a supportive environment for COD’s student-athletes, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed on and off the field.
