COD Women’s Cross Country finishes 3rd at PCAC Championship, team qualifies for SoCal Regionals

COD entered their final Conference event of the 2017 season at Guajome Park in Oceanside for the Pacific Coast Conference Championship, where the team finished 3rd overall on the 5k course.

With the 3rd place finish, the Roadrunners qualified for the SoCal Finals at Central Park in Santa Clarita on November 3rd. In addition, both freshman Brandie Lopez (La Quinta H.S.) and freshman Naibe Ruelas (Indio H.S.) finished in the top 15, were medalists and were named to the All-PCAC team.

The Roadrunners finished with 115 points, outpacing Imperial Valley College by 20 points.

Grabbing the top spot for Desert in Oceanside was freshman Brandie Lopez (La Quinta H.S.), collecting a 9th place finish and a time of 21:09.

Freshman Naibe Ruelas (Indio H.S.), dropped 11 seconds from her effort two weeks ago, crossing the finish line at 21:25, good enough for 12th place and close behind Ruelas' finish was sophomore Lena Saucedo (Tampa (FL) Wingate De Academy), with a 17th place finish and a time of 22:42.

Freshman Elisa Polanco (La Quinta H.S.) grabbed a 37th place finish, with a time of 25:40 and freshman Roberta Pineda (La Quinta H.S.), wrapped up the top five for COD with a time of 26:46, finishing in 40th place.

Sophomore Maria Cruz Cuevas (Salton City West Shores) and freshman Karla Garcia (Palm Desert H.S.) finished 45th and 48th for the Roadrunners on the afternoon.
