COD Women’s Cross Country finishes 5th at Palomar Invitational

COD opened the 2017 season at Guajome Regional Park in Oceanside for the Palomar Invitational, where the team finished 5th overall on the 5k course.

The Roadrunners finished with 131 points, besting their nearest competition by 28 points and outpacing Imperial Valley College by 61 points.

Grabbing the top spot for Desert in Oceanside was sophomore Lena Saucedo (Tampa (FL) Wingate De Academy), collecting a 16th place finish and a time of 22:10.4.

Right on Saucedo's heels was freshman Brandie Lopez (La Quinta H.S.) who finished 17th, collecting a time of 22:17.1 and freshman Naibe Ruelas (Indio H.S.), who crossed the finish line at 23:20.6, good enough for 21st place.

Sophomore Maria Cruz Cuevas (Salton City West Shores) wrapped up a 38th place finish with a time of 26:36.6 and freshman Elisa Polanco (La Quinta H.S.) wrapped up the top five for COD with a time of 26:38.5, finishing in 39th place.

Sophomore Stephanie Rosales (Palm Springs H.S.) and freshman Karla Garcia (Palm Desert H.S.) finished 47th and 51st for the Roadrunners on the afternoon.
