COD Women’s Volleyball: Ruiz signs letter with Briar Cliff

COD Women's Volleyball sophomore middle blocker Marisol Ruiz (Thermal Desert Mirage) has signed a letter of intent with Briar Cliff University.

The 6-0 middle blocker from Desert Mirage High School started all 44 matches over the past two seasons, finishing 1st in Conference and 4th in the state in service aces, with 72 and 4th in the state in assists per set averaging, with 0.83. Ruiz was 16th in block assists, with 53 and had a great game against Mt. San Jacinto assisting on 8 blocks on October 4th. As a reward for all of her hard work, Ruiz was named first team all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference her sophomore season. Ruiz also played two seasons of Beach Volleyball for the Roadrunners.

The 2017 season was the sixth year for co-head coaches Marion Champion and Detlev Rothe as Desert ended the season with a record of 13-12 overall and 4-4 in Conference, finishing second.

Briar Cliff University is located in Sioux City, Iowa which is about 5 miles northeast of the Iowa-Nebraska-South Dakota border and is about 275 miles southwest of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The BC Chargers play their home games at the Newman Flanagan Center and the team is coached by 6th year veteran head coach, Trevor Schirman. In 2017-18 season, the Chargers concluded the year with a 18-9 overall record and a 8-8 record in Conference play, finishing seventh. The Chargers are in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) of the NAIA.
