2017 Season in Review - COD Women's Volleyball

The 2017 season was the sixth year for co-head coaches Marion Champion and Detlev Rothe as Desert ended the season with a record of 13-12 overall and 4-4 in Conference, finishing second.

On the court, team captain, freshman setter Ashtyn Lyneis (Palm Springs H.S.), was named first team all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. She finished 1st overall in conference and 50th in the state with a 304 digs, she finished 2nd in Conference and 32nd in state with 569 assists and a 6.54 assists per set average. Lyneis had a season high 44 assists versus Chaffey on September 13th and a conference high 28 assists at Palomar on November 3rd.

Also named first team all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference was sophomore middle blocker Marisol Ruiz (Thermal Desert Mirage) who finished 1st in Conference and 4th in the state in service aces 72 and 4th in the state in assists per set averaging 0.83. Ruiz was 16th in block assists 53 and had a great game against Mt. San Jacinto assisting on 8 blocks on October 4th.

Freshman middle block Nicole Svoboda (La Quinta H.S.) snatched the third spot as a first team all-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference player. She finished 2nd in conference and 2nd state in blocks per set 1.17 average, she finished 3rd in conference for total blocks 101 and 4th in conference for block assists 70. Svoboda performed well at home against Palomar on October 18th with 9 block assists.

Named to the second team all-Conference was freshman outside hitter Baylie Dashner (La Quinta H.S.). Dashner, who was the leading offensive weapon for the Roadrunners, finished 1st in Conference and 32nd in state for kills 273, 1st in Conference in kills per set and 39th in state averaging 3.14, starting every match and totaling 803 hitting attempts.

Also named to the second team all-Conference was sophomore right side Chrishayla Jackson (Desert Hot Springs H.S.). Jacksoin finished 2nd in Conference in blocks per set averaging 0.78 and 3rd in block assists 48. She finished the season totaling 60 blocks.

Sophomore libero London Felder (Rancho Cucamonga Alta Loma) finished 11th in conference in digs 210 and 11th in conference in digs per set averaging 2.63 and starting in all but one match on the season.

Sophomore right side Allixandria Durrum (Twentynine Palms H.S.) and freshman outside hitter Sydney Viliunas (Indio Shadow Hills) received honorable mentions. Durrum contributed 55 digs, 7 service aces and 12 blocks on the season. Viliunas contributed 142 digs, 19 service aces and 65 kills.
