COD Women’s Volleyball falls for 1st time at home in 2017 to #8 Spartans, 3-0

COD (10-9; 3-3) put their home winning streak on the line against the #8 team in all of California and made the Oceanside MiraCosta Spartans (21-6; 7-0) work for their third set, but in the end the streak came to an end on Sophomore Night, 3-0.

The Roadrunners would struggle in sets one and two, falling 25-15 then 25-14, but in the third set, Desert exacted all of its full measure and took that set to the limit. At one point, the Roadrunners were holding onto a solid four point lead, at which time MiraCosta called their first time out of the match. The Spartans would roar back to tie the set and take a one point lead, only to have that lead evaporate on an ace by Ashtyn Lyneis. Later in the match, the Spartans would be forced to call their second time out at 18-16, as Desert was gaining momentum. MiraCosta would get to 24-20, but Desert would rally to score three more points before the Spartans ended the match, 25-23.

Freshman setter Ashtyn Lyneis (Palm Springs H.S.) led the team with 7 kills, had 9 assists, had 2 service aces and had 6 digs and freshman outside hitter Baylie Dashner (La Quinta H.S.) had 5 kills, 7 digs and had 3 block assists.

Freshman setter Brooke Topliff (Rancho Mirage H.S.) led the team with 11 assists and had 2 service aces and freshman middle blocker Nicole Svoboda (La Quinta H.S.) led the team with 4 block assists and had a solo block.

Sophomore libero London Felder (Alta Loma H.S.) led the team with 12 digs and sophomore middle blocker Chrishayla Jackson (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) led the team with 2 solo blocks.
