COD Men’s Tennis sends two players to State Finals

The COD Men's Tennis Team participated in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) Men's Tennis Championships this weekend at Grossmont College.

The PCAC Conference Tournament qualifies individual players for the CCCAA State Championships which are played in Ojai, California - April 27-30

TOP LINE: COD qualified two individual singles players and one doubles team for the State Championships.

The tough and hard hitting COD Doubles team of Freshman Dimitrije Vukovic (Vancouver (BC) Morscrop Secondary) and freshman Jakob Dvorken (Ridgewood, NJ) reached the semifinals of the PCAC Conference Doubles Championships and have qualified for the CCCAA State Doubles Championships.

Vukovic also made an impressive run to the Quarterfinals of the PCAC Singles Championships and has qualified for the CCCAA State Singles Championships.

Dvorken also reached the Round of 16 in the PCAC Conference Singles Championships and has qualified for the CCCAA Sate Singles Championships.

It should also be noted that every single member of the COD Men's Tennis Team won at least one match in the Conference Championships this weekend. Freshman Clayton Carlson (La Quinta H.S.), freshman Javertt Hernandez (Cathedral City H.S.), freshman Miguel Nolasco (Thermal Coachella Valley), freshman Eleazar Vazquez-Celis (Indio H.S.), and freshman Joao Luiz Zillo Prado (São Paulo, Brazil) all contributed and won tough matches this weekend for the Roadrunners.

"This was a tremendous weekend for the COD Men's Tennis Program, "states COD Men's Tennis Coach, Ken Thomas. "The PCAC Conference Tennis Championship is an extremely difficult three-day tournament that consists of talented tennis players from around the world. The fact that COD secured two Singles entries and a Doubles entry into the State Championships is testimony to how solid the COD Men's Tennis Program really is. Plus, you add in the fact that every member of the COD team won at least one match, and I would say we achieved many of the objectives this weekend. We now turn our attention and focus to the State Championships in Ojai. Go Roadrunners!"
