COD Men’s Golf wins at Sun Lakes, Schmitt takes 1st

COD Men's Golf freshman Matt Schmitt (Brawley H.S.) finished as the leader, shooting a 3-over, 75, as the Roadrunners grabbed a second place finish in their ninth Pacific Coast Athletic Conference event, hosted at the par-72 Sun Lakes Country Club in Banning.

All five PCAC schools participated in the tournament, which was won by College of the Desert by 11 strokes.

While Schmitt has had better outings over the course of the season, this was a solid first place finish, nosing ahead of three other players, including one of his teammates to take the individual title. Sophomore Nicolas Beeken (Liège, Belgium) was right on Schmitt's tail, shooting a 4-over 76 and freshman Gauthier Adams (Liège, Belgium) shot a 5-over 77.

Freshman Sam Berglund (Melbourne, Australia) shot a 6-over par 78 and shooting an 80 was freshman Steven Wang (Taipei, Taiwan). Freshman Tyler Smith (Palm Desert H.S.) wrapped up the afternoon and his third event of the season shooting an 84.

COD will make their next appearance at Woods Valley Golf Club in San Marcos on Wednesday, April 19th as they participate in their tenth Pacific Coast Athletic Conference event, hosted by Palomar College.
